MANDINAM

"But so I have seen the sun with a little ray of distant light challenge all the power of darkness, and without violence and noise climbing up the hill, hath made Night so to retire, that its memory was lost in the joyes and spritefulness of the morning....!

Jeremy Taylor 1613 - 1667

A simile about the oppression of righteousness, these words of Jeremy Taylor could have been inspired by the dawn at Mandinam where he lived when he escaped after the execution of his king during the civil war.

This must be one of the most romantic bed and breakfast places in Carmarthenshire with its rugged elegance and wonderful views over the Towy valley and the hills beyond.  The house is comfortable and easy-going with weathered antiques living in contented harmony with contemporary art and rugs.  The welcome is warm and the food delicious.  The perfect place for walking on the Beacons or just enjoying more domestic walks around the farm.

There are log fires and spacious comfortable rooms in the house where guests are welcomed and encouraged to make themselves at home. Meals are cooked using sourced local and organic food wherever possible.

A few yards from the house, the top floor of a coachouse has been made into a light and spacious self contained room for people to stay in as Bed and Breakfast guests. In this rustic but comfortable accommodation there is a log-burning stove, armchairs and a private terrace overlooking a breath-taking view of the Towy valley. You can have complete privacy here and come down in the morning to the house for breakfast.

In the courtyard, also available for Bed and Breakfast is the New Room,  a small listed farm building recently converted to make a luxurious suite complete with four poster bed made by local craftsman, Gallery with T.V. and en suite bath and shower with underfloor heating.

Now there are two self catering possibilities in the Shepherd Hut and  the Gypsy Van, both of which have the added attraction of a wood fired hot tub. Both these wagons are on separate secluded locations in different areas of  the farm.  At the moment these two options are under threat from Local Planning who, despite them being far from public view, have decided that they need planning permission which they may not allow!  Watch this space!
